About ANDY
Artist and illustrator Andy Sklar creates stylistic, imaginative paintings inspired by travel advertising of the early to mid-20th century and Hollywood’s Golden Age.
Growing up in the north suburbs of Chicago, Andy's passion for drawing and creativity was fueled by the city's captivating architecture and attractions, such as The Field Museum of Natural History, The Art Institute and Christmas at the Walnut Room in Marshall Field’s.
Fusing memory and imagination, Andy creates paintings that also reflect his surroundings and life experience in the diverse social landscapes of the Coachella Valley and Los Angeles. Andy has been an artist and art director in the story-telling realm of theme park design, children's books, and licensing for over thirty years.
He holds a degree from the Rhode Island School of Design and started his career as a concept designer for Walt Disney Imagineering. In 2022, Andy made the leap from commercial art to showing his work to a broader public at the Superfine Art Exhibition in Los Angeles.
“The art of storytelling has always fueled and inspired my creativity. Building a mood by laying washes of color and figures into space reveals places, characters, and narrative moments. Weaving atmosphere and structure into a cohesive image, my work tells engaging and thought-provoking stories while inviting the viewer to create their own.”Andy Lives in Los Angeles.
