About the Work:
This series of costumed figures and clowns was inspired by the motif’s and themes of a Venetian Carnevale. Add to the mix a bit of Las Vegas and Cirque du Soleil and you have the recipe of this colorful series.
On my first trip to Venice Italy as student I cam upon an exhibit that paired my two all time favorite artists . It was an exhibit of Andy Warhol and a series he did interpeting the famous surrealists Giorgio d e Chirico. Those two combined certainly made an impression on me.

This original watercolor was part of the Brea Gallery’s 35th annual juried exhibit Made In California.
Prints are now available for Bright Horizon in the store website link.
About the Work:
In this piece I pulled my inspiration from the classic composition of a Hollywood close up. We are caught in the enlightened glance of a costumed mariner character. The pointed hat mirrors the eyes toward this bright horizon. Movement and drama are added with the flowing scarves and rolling waves of ribbon. Acting like billowing sails, they cast they forward. But what are they sailing toward, might we ask? A bright horizon or a hopeful illusion. Perhaps it is both.

FIGURINES & GIFTS
It was a great delight when I was invited to design and art direct the collectible gift line Sweet Hearts and Expressions for Demdaco Home & Gift Company Stilwell, KS. The line was met with great enthusiasm and quickly became a beloved addition to their line of art & design gift line.
Each figurine and product was a labor of love, beginning with my original watercolor designs. These designs depicted detailed costumes and full turnaround poses, each carefully thought out and meticulously crafted to bring the characters to life.
With the support of the incredible Demdaco team, it was a great privilege and a lot of fun being involved in every step of production, including art directing sculpts and molds with a factory in Hong Kong to the design and illustration of the custom store displays featured in the Hallmark Gold Crown shops worldwide.

Having the opportunity to work with the Disney Stores and designing murals first for their World of Disney Store in Orlando and then concept designs for the flagship New York Store was a dream come true. It all culminated when I was asked to do the murals and scenic designs for the Michigan Avenue Shop in Chicago. Being a kid from the suburbs, it was truly a thrill to recreate these beloved Chicago landmarks in a style that captures the vibrant energy that is the great city of Chicago!
